Tim Pieper purchased Tri-State Controls in 1992 and renamed it Tristate Valves & Controls, better known by the acronym, TRIVACO. At the time, our main focus was to provide severe service valves to the Power and Paper industries.

Company Background

By 1995, we had opened up new markets, Coal Prep being the largest. Our focus was still severe service valves, but new product lines emerged: Pneumatic and Electric Actuators, Air Heaters and Slurry Valves became prominent in our overall success. We built a new 12,000 square foot facility to accommodate the growth.

By 1997, we added coverage for the Process, Municipal and Gas Transmission markets. We added 24,000 square feet of warehousing and manufacturing space to accommodate a complete in-house fabrication, machining and assembly shop known internally as TRIVACO Manufacturing Services. We added engineers, designers, machinists and fabricators so we could better serve our customers’ automation needs. Dampers and Damper Drives have been added to our product offering.

In 2004, we started TRIVACO Fiberglass Systems (TFS) to support the growing Flue Gas Desulphurization markets. TFS is a wholly integrated fiberglass pipe, structural and grating fabrication shop.

TFS combines engineering expertise with an understanding of fiberglass applications. All of our products come from top-quality, front-line US manufacturers including Smith Fibercast and Fibergrate.

In 2008, TRIVACO purchased TSV, a safety valve repair shop, located in Indianapolis, IN. Our shop in Indianapolis is certified with the National Board and holds the following code stamps: VR, UV, V and NB. We are also an “Authorized Factory Assembler” for Kunkle and we offer ASME repairs of Kunkle valves and other manufacturers through the “VR” program.

In 2010, TRIVACO acquired Alpha Controls. This acquisition has given us a complete line of instrumentation and controls, which enables TRIVACO to provide our customers complete turnkey valve, automation and instrumentation solutions.

TRIVACO serves industrial markets in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, with our corporate office being in Hebron, Kentucky.

Job Title: Industrial Pipe Welder / Fabricator & Skid Builder

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Industrial Pipe Welder / Fabricator to join our production and assembly team. The ideal candidate will be an expert in pressure piping systems, with solid secondary experience in structural steel fabrication. Additionally, you will play a key role in mechanical assembly—interpreting schematics to mount valves, wire/tube instrumentation, and build out complete, modular industrial skid packages.

Key Responsibilities & Attributes:

1. Pipe Welding & Fitting (Primary Focus)

Layout, fit, and weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy pressure piping systems.
Perform high-quality welds using GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick) and GMAW (MIG) processes, ensuring deep penetration and clean finishes capable of passing non-destructive testing (NDT/X-ray).
Cut, thread, bevel, and fit pipe precisely according to isometric drawings and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).

2. Structural Fabrication & Welding (Secondary Focus)

Fabricate and weld heavy structural steel frames, bases, and supports for modular skid packages.
Utilize FCAW (Flux-Core) or GMAW (MIG) for strong, structurally sound welds on structural channels, I-beams, and angles.
Operate shop equipment safely, including bandsaws, grinders and torches.

3. Valve, Instrument & Skid Assembly (Third Focus)

Perform mechanical assembly of completed modular skids, including mounting industrial valves, actuators, regulators, and manifolds.
Install, align, and integrate process instrumentation (transmitters, gauges, flow meters).
Run instrumentation tubing (stainless steel bending) and assist with basic mechanical/pneumatic hookups according to engineering schematics.

Qualifications & Experience:

Experience: 3–5+ years of industrial pipe welding and fitting experience (field or shop fabrication). Experience with modular skid building or process equipment manufacturing is highly preferred.
Certifications: Ability to pass standard pipe welding certifications (e.g., ASME Section IX, 6G position) is required. Previous structural AWS D1.1 certification is a plus.
Blueprint Reading: Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting isometric drawings, structural blueprints, and P&IDs.
Mechanical Aptitude: Excellent hand-eye coordination, precision measuring skills, and comfort working with pneumatic, hydraulic, or automated valve assemblies.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in various physical positions (stooping, kneeling, reaching), and operate overhead cranes or forklifts safely.
